The recipient of this year’s award, photographer Gregory Brown, has developed an enviable and well deserved reputation for the highest quality erotic photography, his body of work excelling in both the technical aspects of the genre as well as the artistic merits. His fine art style sets the very highest of standards and his attention to detail and composition serves to put him at the very forefront of the exciting new breed of erotic photographers who are not only capable, but consummately skilled at creating stunning imagery from their creative vision. For the skill and creative beauty of his work this award is richly deserved. |

We have been extremely impressed not only with Sally’s work ethic, but the sheer beauty of her work. Her unique erotic art style brings with it a breath of fresh air and a new perspective to one of the oldest art forms. With the subtle use of colour, light and shade, she has managed to bring to life the joy and energy of life, from simple sunbathing to making love beneath a summer sky in shimmering seas that the viewer feels they want to plunge headlong into. It was a great pleasure to see Sally’s work debut in the magazine this year and to see the exceptional response from readers to her refreshing, invigorating approach to the subject and the genre. |

The winner of this year’s JADE Special Achievement Award is presented to photographer and performer Nicole Klein of ‘The Hourglass’. It is our intention that this award should single out for recognition someone working within the erotic art world who we feel has contributed greatly to the furtherance of the art form. It is our belief that Nicole has not only brought her own artistic creativity to photography and performance, but that in creating ‘The Hourglass’ and bringing into the world of erotic art women of every size and shape she merits this award |

ABOUT THE AWARDS |

They were a long time in coming, but finally 2009 saw the launch of the JADE Erotic Artist of the Year awards, with the winner being presented with a specially commissioned kneeling nude sculpture in white by leading master sculptor Ken Clarke (see image below). The winner and the two runners-up also received framed certificates.
The main awards form part of JADE magazine's active support of The Guild of Erotic Artists and are presented to members of the Guild whose work has appeared in the magazine. The winners are chosen each year by the magazine's editorial staff based on a combination of professional assessment of the work which has appeared in the magazine and on readers' response as shown through the mailbag.
Although limited to this single award at present, it is hoped eventually to expand the system of awards to include a wide range of fields and accomplishments, and perhaps to encourage other organisations and companies to create awards of their own.
The awards are presented to the winners at a special event at the Guild's Headquarters at Beaumont Hall Studios, St Albans. JADE is proud to continue to support the Guild of Erotic Artists and to promote the sensual art of erotica for the modern age. Details of the award ceremony appear in the magazine after the event.
The secondary awards, in other areas of erotica, are presented by the editor in the form of framed certificates, on behalf of the magazine's editorial staff and the categories for these are intended to be flexible year on year to allow for a wide range of erotica to be recognised and acknowledged as the JADE staff see fit. |
