On Sunday 20th September 2009 this year's recipients attended a special ceremony at the headquarters of the Guild of Erotic Artists (Beaumont Hall Studios) in St Albans to recieve their certificates and awards. We can think of no more deserving recipient of this year's award than photo-artist Robert Babylon, whose work has developed and improved over the last few years and whose quality is always first class. His rich, artistic vision pushes at the boundaries of erotic art and explores the subject with a passion and skill which singles him out as a leader in the field, taking on new challenges and creating new works of art that set themselves apart from the mainstream. It is our hope that this award reflects the high regard in which this artist is held and that it will be just one of many he will receive throughout his career. |

We are pleased to be able to make this award to one of JADE’s most popular and much requested photographers. Since we first began publishing Dave Hare’s work in our printed version of the magazine, it has been the regular subject of high praise in our readers’ mailbag. With a higher number of ‘Image of the Month’ spreads to his credit than any of our other fine contributors, he is without doubt one of the most accomplished erotic photographers of his generation, with a gifted eye for detail, composition and lighting, and a strong, determined work ethic. |

No other artist whose work has appeared in JADE has so developed their body of work over such a short space of time as Karen Middleton. Relatively new to the erotic genre, the last couple of years have seen her working hard and with real determination to develop her own erotic art style. Her skill and talent for illustration are without question, and her development of that style into high class erotic art does her much credit. Karen has earned both our respect and admiration and we hope this award acknowledges the huge strides we feel she has made with her art. |

The winner of this year’s award for Erotic Writer of the Year is presented to a female author who has had great success with her work and who has consistently been at the forefront of erotic fiction here in the UK - for both men and women. Having reviewed many erotic and adult novels over the course of the last year, there was little doubt that Janine Ashbless’s work towers high above the rest. Our only hope is that she continues to do what she does best and delights us with her seductive, sensual tales for many years to come. |

The great debate over what constitutes an ‘erotic’ image still rages today and is largely subjective. However, of all the books we received for review over the last year the image for the cover of ‘Sarah’s Education’ by Madeline Moore and published by Black Lace was, for us here at JADE, easily the most sensual and erotic image we had seen adorn a book jacket. Without any bare flesh or body parts the simple image spoke seductive, sensual volumes of what was to come - the essence, we believe, of the perfect erotic image. |

There can be little doubt that in recent years German publisher Edition Reuss has gone from strength to strength under the leadership of its charismatic and visionary founder Mattheus Reuss. The sheer number of adult erotic photo-style books published, their high production quality and superb content mark Edition Reuss out as a leader in the erotic publishing world. From simple nude studies to more avant-garde and bizarre subject material, Edition Reuss has succeeded in bringing some of the world’s finest photographers to print. |

ABOUT THE AWARDS |

They have been a long time in coming, but finally 2009 saw the launch of the JADE Erotic Artist of the Year awards, with the winner being presented with a specially comissioned kneeling nude sculpture in white by leading master sculptor Ken Clarke (see image below). The winner and the two runners up will also recieve framed certificates.
The main awards form part of JADE magazine's active support of The Guild of Erotic Artists and are presented to members of the Guild whose work has appeared in the magazine. The winners are chosen by the magazine's editorial staff based on a combination of proffesional assesment of the work which has appeared in the magazine and on readers' response as shown through the mailbag.
Although limited to this single award at present, it is hoped eventually to expand the system of awards to include a wide range of fields and accomplishments, and perhaps to encourage other organisations and companies to create awards of their own.
The 2009 award will be presented to the winner at the Guild's September Event Day at Beaumont Hall Studios, St Albans. JADE is proud to continue to support the Guild of Erotic Artists and to promote the sensual art of erotica for the modern age. Details of the award ceremony will appear in the magazine in due course.
The secondary awards, in other areas of erotica, are presented by the editor in the form of framed certificates, on behalf of the magazine's editorial staff and the categories for these are intended to be flexible year on year to allow for a wide range of erotica to be recognised and acknowledged as the JADE staff see fit. |
